Cannot install any network card on my laptop - D-Link DWL-G630 nor Belkin F5D6020

edited November 2004 in Science & Tech
Hi,

I tried to install a D-Link DWL-G630 Wireless card on my laptop (DELL, Win2K, SP4) but it refuses to install. I followed all the intallation insstructions but after I pluged the card in the PCMCIA slot, Windows ends the installation wizard with a window "Found New Hardware Wizard" with the following message:

An error occured during the installation of the device
The system cannot find the file specified.

The only active button is "Finish", and if I click on it, the whole cycle starts again: Window detect a new hardware and ... the hole loop starts again.

I suspected that the card is the issue, and I tried to install on a different laptop: An WinXP and I've got the same ERROR. Than I tried on a 3rd laptop (Win2K - as my laptop) and I was OK. The card was functioning perfectly!!!!

Other usefull information could be the fact that I have installed (and it is working OK) a wired PCMCIA network card.
And second: a few months ago I installed a wireless card (at the hotel) with out any problems. (unfortunatelly, I forgot to uninstall it before I returned it)

I tried a lot of things to help be solve the issue:
- upgarde the BIOS
- uninstall all the old drivers
- uninstall All the network services, protocols, etc.etc.
- uninstall the ndis driver.

Please help me. At this moment I dont have any other ideeas of what I can try. (Only to reinstall win2K on the system ?)

I had a similar problem in Windows XP after installing and reinstalling some programs: I could not install any new hardware and every new try brought me in a never ending loop: find new hardware ... there was an error installing the software. I hope that someone will come with a solution not with "reinstall windows" advice

I have the same problem when attemptng to install either a DWL _G630 or a scanner and suspect it is something in windows2000 rather than the card. Have you or any one found a solution to this yet? If so please post, I am desperate.

    Hey guys,

    I found something!

I checked my system using the Windows Update. And the Windows Web site diagnosticate that I have to install/reinstall my DirectX runtime. After this installation I WAS ABLE TO INSTALL my network card!!!

Atention: I had install all the DirectX stuff but I uninstall some aplication from my laptop. And I asume that these uninstalls uninstall my DirectX Runtime.

Any way it is worty to give it a try!

I am having the same problem. (Dell Precision M50, Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 1 (my company is slow to adopt SP2), DWL-G630 Rev B1)

Has anyone had success? DLink Tech Support has been useless so far.
