SP2 with windows XP

edited October 2004 in Science & Tech
I do not know if I should write in this forum or not!

I need want to put SP2 with windows XP together in one CD

I tried that, but memory of the CD is only 700 Mb
so I need two CDs to do it.

My question, how can I copy it in two CDs ?

You have to slipstream SP2 into the Windows XP image. Just do a google there are a few really good guides out there on how to do this.

    e.g.

    SP2 Slipstream Guide

Slipstreaming SP1 and SP2 into a Windows XP disk is actually pretty easy. You just need to read the instructions carefully and don't be afraid of mucking it up a couple of times to get it right.

    AutoStreamer. Works like a charm.

If you use autostreamer does that give you the same results as the totorial in the above link?

Also,is that IT service pack the same as the SP2 service pack that gets DNL'ed and installed using windows update? Seems like there is a lot less that gets downloaded when you just let windows update get the SP2 and install it.

And, do you have to slipstream both SP1/1a with SP2 or is just say my XP Pro CD with SP2 slipstreamed ok?

Is there anyother things that should be included at the same time like DirectX 9C and mediaplayer 10, if you use that kinda thing...,?

    Thanks,

I just did SP1a and SP2 and left WMP10 out of it. You have to include a script to get the WMP10 installation to work properly.

I did a previous SP1a slipstream with all the post SP1a updates before. No need to include the post SP1 updates with the SP1/SP2 slipstream.

Yep. It just does all that automagically.

I never used Windows Update to download service packs so I don't know. I think it's just the same thing but the IT one is that you can download it and install it on a network with switches.

You insert your XP with or without SP1 and it slipstreams it with SP2.

I don't remember if it has WMP10 included but it does have DirectX 9c. If you want to include WMP10 you could make a unattended installation.

I'm using the current version of AutoStreamer and I have a couple of issues.

    1) after its done it makes an ISO file. when I burn it to CD the CD get corrupted some how. After it loads all of the setup files and goes into the actual winxp install screen I get an error about a missing or crouppt file in d:\i386\ams something something.... So I assume that there is a problem with burning, I'm useing EC5 platinum. I have Nero to but that screwed it up also. What am I doing wrong here?

Also can you specify more than one SP, my copy only lets me chose one than I have to burn that copy then slipstream again if I want to do both SP1a and SP2.

Can I get a little clarification?

    Thanks,

Ok here is the exact error message

    Error:
Installation Failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message: The Parameter is incorrect

    Fatal Error:
One of the compontes windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

    The parameter is incorrect.

This is from a legal copy of my XP CD with SP1a and SP2 slipstreamed in using AutoStreamer. and burned va EC 5 plat.

Of course the Windows update is smaller files as it downloads only the files required by that machine - the I.T service pack has all the updated files for all hardware etc that Microsoft has included in the total service pack for all different types of hardware etc

I really don't know. I suggest you try nlite which can also slipstream and see if you still get the problem. Other than that, you could try posting in their thread that's in Neowin (link)

You don't need to do SP1 than SP2. SP2 contains all fixes SP1 has and all the recent stuff.

You should NOT be slipstreaming SP2 onto anything but a pure original XP cd. All updates are included in SP2. You should not be doing this onto one that had sp1 on before, or slipstreaming them both onto a install.

I slipstreamed SP2 onto a cd which already had SP1 and it works prefectly.

So what program should I be burning the ISO image that AutoStream creates?

I have Easy CD Creator 5 Plat, Nero 5, and Clone CD.

I don't think that Clone CD will do it cause it only sees CCD imges when you choose burn from file.

    Thanks,

If you tried Easy CD Creator and it didn't work, try Nero.

Yep, that is what it was. Don't know why EAC wouldn't burn it properly but I used Nero and it worked fine.

I'm fairly sure that the Dell CD has the following directory structure, you might want to check.
