Problems connecting to S-M

On my main rig, it gives me errors when trying to connect to S-M. Just my main rig. Every other computer on the network (all six of them) have no problems. Firefox says the connection was refused or something to that effect. I don't remember what IE says, not that I want to be using that browser. I'll get the exact errors in a bit.

No proxies, or anything like that...

Up until yesterday I thought it was S-M cause I remember the sigs were disabled for bandwitdh before my computer stopped working. Then I tried to connect on this laptop and it worked fine. There are no other issues connecting to other web sites on that computer, at least none that I've seen...

Any suggestions?

When you ping S-M what ip addy is returned? It may timeout but should be resolving to 198.64.189.142.
Make sure there's not some wierd entry for S-M in your hosts file (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc). If you don't find an entry there try clearing your browser cache and then from a command prompt run ipconfig /flushdns. Then retry.

Or maybe you've offended Prime and you've been smacked with the BAN-STICK.

Hey TheGr81... Do you have any idea how it got there? I'd be curious to know if there's some spyware installer out there that adds our site to the hosts list.... :eek3:

If you could consider people spyware... :shakehead

I think someone just doesn't like the time I spend here. I'll deal with him myself. :ninja:

My dad prolly doesn't know what the host file is, what it does, where it's located, or that it even exists. It's the same guy that seems to think FAH is the bane of every computer's existence, and disables it on any computer I install it on, besides my own. Since he's around here a lot more than I am, there's nothing I can do about it. He seems to think the program "eats memory like nothing," yet the last time I checked it only used 2-10 megs (on our systems that have 512 mb) and backs off whenever memory (or processor time) is needed.
There's gotta be a reason he's my friend, right?? :shakehead
