    You are running an outdated hijackthis. Delete the old version and download the new one from this site. New version is 1.98.2

    Uninstall Web_Rebates from add\remove programs.

    Try this scan at Panda and have it clean anything it finds.

    You are also way behind with your Microsoft updates. Go here & install them.

    When done, reboot and post a log from the new version of hijackthis.

    No probs :). Don't forget the Microsoft updates. They will help to prevent future infection.

    Open task manager and kill these processes;
    180ax.exe
    medload.exe
    sptsupd.exe

    Then go to C:\windows and delete them manually.

    Close all browser windows and fix these with hijackthis;

    Hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete together and task manager will pop up. You need the Processes Tab. You can also right click on the task bar (bottom bar) and the task manager should be listed there too.

    To get to C:\Windows go to the start button and then to your HDD which is C in your case. Double click on it and Windows will be one of the folders.

    ok got it i did all of it except for Boot into safe mode by tapping f8 whilst booting and delete these manually;

    C:\WINDOWS\fash.exe< file
    C:\WINDOWS\ebwl.exe< file

    C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates< folder

    i was wondering which safe mode do i go under cause i went under the one that says just safe mode and a bunch of numbers and letters showed up

    You should get a menu asking what you wish to do after tapping f8. Safe mode boot up should be one of those options.
    If you wish you can try it in normal mode. You will possibly have to fix those entries again with hijackthis first.

    Instructions for booting into safe mode can be found here.

    Looks good, but I am unsure of one file. It has a legitimate name in the running processes, but not in the corresponding line in hijackthis.
    Go to http://www.kaspersky.com/remoteviruschk.html and have this file scanned.

    C:\WINDOWS\mshta.exe

    It will ask you to upload the file. Just navigate to it like the others you did already and it will be scanned. If it comes up bad, kill it in task manager then delete it manually.
    Reboot and post another log.
    I have to go out now for a while (going to watch the drag racing with my daughter. No, not ppl in drag :) )so will check in later.

    I need you to upload them to that online scanner first to make sure they are bad. Once confirmed as bad you will have to delete manually.

    Thanks too :), we had a ball. Nothing like a few door slammers to get you going :).

    Go to the control panel and double click on folder options. Click on the *view* Tab and check the radio buttons for *Show hidden files and folders.* Also c uncheck the box for *Hide protected operating system files.*
    Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options".
    Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"
    The files must be there as you were able to upload them to the scanner.

    Go here to TrendMicro for an on-line scan & set it to autoclean for you.
