AMD 64 Bit and Memory?

edited October 2004 in Hardware
Ok, I have recently Purchased the AMD 64 Bit 2800+, Now I did a little research and Found that OCZ is probably the Best for the job.

http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=27&page=1

They have a Memory Review that is Off the Chart with there Dual 3200 400FSB, Whish is what im gaining for.

Is this the Best for Performance as well as Price.

On Newegg.com They have:

OCZ Enhanced Latency Series Dual Channel Kits 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - Retail

Listed for only 224.00

You tell me what is the Best Performance Compatible Ram for the AMD 64 Bit 2800+

Thanks in Advance!

The OCZ EL series is very Athlon 64 friendly from what I have heard :)

Do note that the socket 754 2800+ processor is only single channel. There is no performance gain from using 2 x 512mb over 1 x 1gb :)

    $224.00?? Damn.

It's over £230.00 (around $400.00) for the same memory here in the UK :(

What Processor would be a Dual Channel Processor? and How much better would the Performance be.

With the Motherboard I have, I can surely switch the CPU.

Socket 939 processors support dual channel memory, socket 754 do not :)

Yes, you would need to change your motherboard as you have a socket 754 not a 939 board. That's the limitation of the processor.

Dual channel is over-rated in the AMD platform.

You would gain a little more performance changing the processor to a higher rated processor with a clawhammer 1mb cache core (Im assuming you have a 2800+ winchester core A64 with 512kb cache).

BUT the big question is... real world performance.. will you see a difference? Benchmarks yes, real world application performance? Unlikely.

Synthetic benchmarks != real world performance & feel.

You have a .13 micron Newcastle core (as Im sure you can read).

Upgrade if you really have to have dual channel but you won't get a huge performance boost from it. Really you wont :)

The original RAM you posted in the thread but get some PC3700 of EB OCZ :)

    Plenty of overclocking headroom ;)
