It might be your PSU. What brand of PSU do you have?

If you have reformatted and tried a handful of different drivers already, it could come down to being the card itself.

How long has you computer done this? Did it just start?

it seems strange that the card is a pro but the computer reads it as an xt. I don't have a 9800 pro card but i'm not sure if that is normal.

I would try the card in another machine and see if it causes that machine to lock up.

Way back when I had a geforce3 that would reboot my pc whenever i did anything graphically intensive.

    good luck :)

You're sure that it isn't temp realted?
Can you fold and run a video tests with no glitch?
  • edited October 2004
Im not sure if its temp related or not, I have 3 case fans and the mobo fan the cpu runs about 120f - 127f Ive been told thats normal though.

man i hope there isnt a problem with the card, I dont have the recipt anymore.. :(

Power Supply Unit - your power supply. I see you have a 350 watt, but what brand is it? Do you know how to get into your BIOS and check the voltages on it?
  • edited October 2004
mm yeah I know how to get into the bios, but what does it NEED to be set at, that I am unfamilar with. and dont want to randomly change things

You can't set anything in your PSU. You can use the BIOS to monitor the voltages, mostly I just want to see if your voltages are within the proper ranges.

what are the proper ranges I will check

the +12v, +5v, and +3.3v should all be close to 12, 5, and 3.3v respectively. It will be under a BIOS menu called pc health statistics or something along those lines. post the exact values you find in your BIOS, and then we can go from there....

Could you just post the voltages for us? Or at least define "fine"?

That's definatly heat related. Idle seems do be doing fine, not load.
Troll, where do you read the temperature? From the bios? Let's say it IDLES at 120F (48C) and the temps show a 10-15c lower temps than it really is (Happens VERY often on many mobos), that put's the idle temperature up to 135 F at least. Add load to that, which usually is at least 10c depending on the heatsink/fan quality. That's like 155F.

Then again, if the 120F you mentioned is under load, i am totally wrong.
