Internet/ISP/BT problem
I am having internet problems, nut am also having problems getting it sorted via my ISP and BT.
All was setup and working fine, then the router started to d/c and restart every so often, this increased to a more regular pattern some times d/c and restarting every 5 minutes.
The problem does seem worse when under load ie loats of downloading.
My ISP is Demon, my router an alcatel MR4A/UK.
So far I have replaced the router under warranty, tried a USB modem, and used a freinds router.
The USB modem connection light stays on but data transfer freezes every so often for up to 15 seconds, the Netgear router connected but was having problems actually doing anything the alcatel keeps d/c and restarting.
I have verified all cables, filter, had the router plugged direct into the filter which has been plugged direct into the wall socket with no other phones or cables connected at all, even when connected direct like this with no PC's connected to the router every now and then the adsl connection light flickers on and off every 20 seconds or so. I have tried various PC's running windows/linux to make sure its not a software issue and the router has its own power supply and has been tested else where and it stayed connected over night whislt downloading for 14 hours no problems.
Now its getting to the case BT are saying there is no problem, Demon my ISP are saying its a BT fault and I am stuck in the middle.
So far I have had 4 visits from BT over the last couple of weeks with no progress, I am waiting for a networking specialist from BT to come and test the line to warrant replacing the phone line itself.
One other thing that has been noted that by connecting using PPP0E using a linux box and setting the hardware router to bridge mode has reduced the d/c's and that the linux box appears now to d/c rather than the hardware router, when using PPPoA and the hardware router in routing mode the hardware router was d/c and restarting.
In PPPoE it takes the linux box 7 seconds to reconnect, in PPPoA it takes the hardware router 2 minutes to fully reconnect yet before the problems it was only 40 seconds.
I know this is a long post and below is a copy of the logs from the linux box whislt set up in PPPoE mode with the router setup in bridge mode, if any of you guys can pick anything out from this any info would be great as its turning into a nightmare. Cheers in advance.

My main problem is I don’t understand what the above means apart from something isn’t right, some info on what could be the cause of the problem ie, is it a BT line fault or not would be of help. Cheers in advance, and feel free to ask any questions about my setuip or what I have/have not tried.
All was setup and working fine, then the router started to d/c and restart every so often, this increased to a more regular pattern some times d/c and restarting every 5 minutes.
The problem does seem worse when under load ie loats of downloading.

My main problem is I don’t understand what the above means apart from something isn’t right, some info on what could be the cause of the problem ie, is it a BT line fault or not would be of help. Cheers in advance, and feel free to ask any questions about my setuip or what I have/have not tried.

From reading those logs, it looks like the physical part of the DSL (phone line) is fine but the virtual part of your connection (the authentication to your ISP - DEMON) is falling over.
Take this back to Demon and inform them that you have intermittant WAN dropouts from the PPP interface. They will do a "whoosh" test to check the continuity on your phone line. More than likely they will say that the whoosh has passed, then you can ask them (you are within your rights, so make sure you say so) to take this problem to BTWholesale (who are the DSL provider) and ask them to check there are no issues on their network.
