Internet and Email issue

About four days ago IE just stopped working. Every time I try to open it it says it has performed an illegal function. If you click details it gives you the standard : IEXPLORE casued and invalid page blah, bah, blah! I tried reloading it, then deleting it and reloading it, repairing it, even reloaded windows (I did not format and start new just reloaded over top of the old install) and I still got the same issue. Then the next day I started get 40 to 60 returned emails each day in my inbox. The unusual thing is I don't know any of the people the emails were sent to nor did I send any!! Can you help? If not can you tell me where to look? I have borrowed a laptop for a couple of days so I have access to the internet to research this problem.
