I hate this game.... I am so damned addicted I can't get any work done!

Alright... I admit, it is the best damned game I have ever played! You just can't get bored of the sheer size of the battles. Mine ranges from 2000 to 4000 men on my side alone. Once I get a better hang of things I am putting the difficulty to the hardest setting and gonna try taking over the known world then!!!

ROME SHALL BE MINE!!! :kneel:

or perhaps?

Hmm... I might have to pick that one up. I haven't been nearly as distracted as I like to be lately...

I've resisted picking it up for the exact reasons you have stated. I already get little enough done as it is, no need to make things worse.

    TRIARII!

Sorry, this is the greatest game ever though. I'm at about 190 A.D. and I'm about to break my alliances with the Scipii and the Brutii. I conquered all the Gauls, and have bought off half of Germania. My average income per turn for each town is about 1000 or more. My largest city, not my capital, has roughly 30,000 people in it.

I've found the key to assaulting villages as well. One onager, three ballistas, about 8 archer units, and the rest are heavy cavalry. You use the archers, preferably from the Legion or Army barracks, and just pick off the enemy units who pack together. This works especially well against the Gauls and rebels who are loosely organized, poorly equiped and poorly shielded. Aim for generals as well, the rest will follow down. Then, I use my ballistas to break both sides of the wall, the door, and the onagers hit any guard towers. Use the cavalry to rush in and stampede the remaining army at the town square.

I like it, but those jerks in Rome fined me 60000 for not doing what they said. They found out the hard way what happens when you mess with the guy who conquered all of Europe by force. At this point though, the micromanagement is starting to annoy me, I'm more of a military type.

I have all my towns on auto manage but i never get any military units even though i put "military" in the box :|

And i odnt have enough generals either.

For the micromanagement, I'd suggest turning on automanagement if you're getting sick of it. You'll make less than you would by managing it every day, but generally it will be good. Unless you have it on a military build policy, the automanagement will not build units, you can uncheck recruitment and then do that on your own. As for lacking generals/governors, you can go and buy off other generals. Say the Gauls or Thrace, if they are low in troopcount they will easily join you for about 3000 Denarii or less.

Now that I've got it working I love this game too. Only played it for about 4 hours so I'm really at the beginning, but it really is truly addictive though. I was up to 2:30 am today playing it, needless to say I'm now absolutely knackered at work today. Anybody got tips for a beginner

I'm almost convinced to buy this, but that genre is not usually my thing.

I didn't think much of Shogun, I like Warcraft III, I'm wondering whether I'd enjoy this?

flops, I don't play these types of game either, my only other previous experience of a game anything like this was Black & White, a few years ago. But a friend kept going on about it so it tried it & love it. (only 4 hour to go till I get home from work & can play again :) )

I think there is a free demo available so why don't you give that a go.

Flopps: this game is a lot like Shogun, same series but they have changed a lot of stuff. I recommend that you give it a try. Give me a PM here or at BBF and I will get ya the link (and password) for getting the demo fast.
