Task manager, regedit will not run.

edited October 2004 in Hardware
I have done the adware and spybot search with the lasted updates. Have done mcafee virus scan, CA on line scan and have run the swen removal tool per Microsoft support chat. Nothing works. Also, can not go to a website from e-mail link.
Had to cut and paste this one to Word when I registered.
BTW, first time at this site.

Please help. :banghead:

Boot into safe mode (press F8 at the BIOS screen when rebooting) then fix this entry:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BS Player] BSPLAYER.EXE

Then (still in safe mode) find and delete the file BSPLAYER.EXE, then boot back into normal mode, upgrade to HijackThis version 1.98.2 and post a new log in the Spyware/Virus/Trojan forum.

Hmmm I never knew BSPlayer was legit. It always worked in problems like this for other people, so I always tell them to remove it if it is a possible problem.

I did what you said and some. I down loaded the new version of hijachthis, went to safe mode, went into administrator found BSplayer in 2 locations on the scan and deleted them both, rebooted, it came up again in the administrator account in safe mode, deleted it again, rebooted, did not show up in administrator, rebooted, went to my family logon, found it there in safe mode, deleted it, rebooted again in safe mode, not there, rebooted into normal mode and it's gone. I can get into task manager now and into regedit. So, mission accomplished. I hope!!!

What the heck is BSplayer anyway??? I would personally like to shot the b
who created it. :sawed: Any chance it will show up again? How did I get it in the first place??? I'm going to reboot in the meantime to see if it comes back. I'm very paranoid now.

Here is my latest Hijackthis log. Please take another look. THANKS!!!!!!!!! :respect:

BSPlayer is a legitimate alternative to Windows Media Player. In some respects, it's better. It has to be installed manually.

I believe this may be due to bestfriends.scr. This version (a fake copy) of BSPlayer is probably found in a dfferent folder than the real BSPlayer would be. It has the same symptoms of Bestfriends.scr. If you have AIM and any of your friends have an away message linking to a bestfriends.scr, do not download it, advise all your friends not to download it, and tell the one with the virus to ask for help here.
