    Change cables.. then see if you get an IP.

    If not,

    StartMenu->run

    Type CMD and a dos window will come up. From there, type ipconfig and paste the details in here.

    Yeah, that will tell us if DHCP is asked for and is being fed....

    One thing that might prove to be very pertinent is one pair of things I ran across here, though. Also check your router and make sure it can feed DHCP to all the computers in number that are likely to be in use if all the computers in the house are on. I managed one time while setting up my router to limit it to three computers (set up a valid DHCP IP RANGE that was all of three IPs big), hooked up mom's and found if I stuck a box I was working on online, ONE of the other three lost interent connectivity (typically MOM's computer, running 98 SE) AND the new one that I was working on said it had an IP conflict. Router was still set for three max in range of IPs it was programmed to feed. AND it happily let just three computers have access to the web. The LAN IP masq was set to allow up to 12 computers plus line plus broadcast for LAN, that is the other thing I had to play with before I was done in order to limit intrusive connects over the web.

    To diagnose it at least, I would try
    1) Switching router ports
    2) Setting a static IP for the computer that can't grab one off router's DHCP

    i've been playing with it, atleast i get an adress from the router now. however internet for me is nonexistant still through the router.

    what i've done so far is hit the reset button on the router

    DNS Suffix :
    IP Address : 192.168.1.100
    Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1

    so basically I can now finally connect to the router but it is still not giving me any internet.

    i've switched cables, i've switched ports, neither worked.
