Time and Time again...

Two items:

The auto detect of (the end of) DST did not work for me. I used the usercp to change it to "DST always off". Problem solved, at least for the next six months.

The clock, however, continues its steady progress toward the future at a rate which surpasses the space-time continuum in my own universe. It is now nine minutes fast. Maybe next May it can give me the winner of the Kentucky Derby before post time. If so, I will cut you in on my winnings. :vimp:

Heh. Short-Media has a temporal variance. Someone needs to static warp shell the server. :p

Um, can SM Team accept Folding Team fund DONATIONs, and CAN S-m then offset cost of documenting folding with donation from team BY billing them for thier fair share of Folding forum and area expenses??? NP things CAN be billed by service providers legitimately.... If no need for funds, fine, but if is need, this accounting thing can do this. I've always thought a non-profit org should pay for what it legitly uses. Send tips to the Folding Team, Y'all.... AT absolute worst, they could have thier own mini-site hosted on Short-Media's server to make the legal observance STRICTER, and pay for hosting at $20.00 per month. BOTH benefit with better server, RIGHT??? At a guess, the Team takes 10-20% of bandwidth and server time, given the forum areas AND docs and promo video download area. Can a sponsored thing give back to sponsor???? Legally, YES, then sponsorship is not 100% but is still a majority in overall effort written to sponsorship of charitable activity.

Tip Jar, please, routed through the Short-Media Folding Team (the folks who WOULD donate all also fold on this team, REALLY, from what I can see in this thread so far). OR, a donation from Team for cost of services rendered partial offset.... Ever seen a medium to large corp or partnership and tried to figure out an interdepartmental or interdivisional billing scheme??? I have.... In this case, it goes against SHORT TERM CAPITAL ASSET EXPENSES eventually, but not directly. Thus, Net profit for Short-Media OVERALL will not be affected one whit unless site is actually making a pure net profit for tax purposes after donation. AFAIK, our site is in US, so US rules for taxes of partnership AS A WHOLE , or US corp rules if this is in reality a small corp registered in US (AS A WHOLE ENTITY) can be used for taxation figuring of this. That is one reason, other than tax benefits to the givers, that formal non-profits (where legal) are desired.

In other (And decidedly more simple terms), we again hold a fund to purchase a product where a portion of the donations go to the furthering of the F@H team.

    See? Simple.

But you have to set the correct time in your user control panels.. as people have adjusted it to cope with the time being wrong before!

Server is based on Eastern Time...

The only way to get an accurate time on my end is to set it to Mountain Time (GMT -7) with DST off.
Setting it to Central Time (GMT -6) with DST auto would have the time ahead one hour
Setting it to Central Time (GMT -6) with DST always on would have the time ahead by two hours, and show it as Easern Time (GMT -5)!
Setting it to Central Time (GMT -6) with DST always off would have the time ahead by one hours

That worked for me for a while, back when we were on the new server. The problem now is that the time likes to jump ahead by an hour, then go back to the correct time after that. The last time I noticed this (three days ago) it corrected itself exactly at midnight EST.

For the powers that be, if it was always off by an hour it would be no big deal. With the time jumping around all the time the way it is now it causes two problems:

    1) Email notifications are delayed by an hour. When someone is watching a hot topic (or trying to moderate a potential problem) that can mean missing an important update.

    2) If my midnight reset theory holds for tonight (and I'm betting it will), every post made between midnight and 1:00am (actual time) will be inserted before those made betweem 11:00pm and midnight. It makes it quite confusing to see the response come before the initial post.

Yet another reason to fix this clock thing: The time jumped back an hour on me today again, so just to keep it at the right time I just manually went in and changed my time zone. Now when searching for new posts I get this error message:

This forum requires that you wait 5 seconds between searches. Please try again in 2695 seconds.

:wtf: I know I could probably just go in and change the time back to fix it...but still thought I'd share.
