Last time home bought Sally a new Abit AA8 DuraMAX mobo, Intel LGA775 3.2g proc, 2 x 512 DDR553 Ram.

As i was running late, i managed to put it all together and then fly back to work. Sally got into the bios, no probs. When she wanted to install the OS, it just shut down.

Just got back home and removed the HSF, thinking it was not seating right onto the CPU. For all intents and purposes it lookes OK. The Artic silver 5 was spread evenly on both the CPU and the Heatsink. :(

Not really understanding what actually can cause this problem, thought i'd best ask for help. (not running=not folding=STRESS). :bawling:

The PSU is also brand new. 420W Themaltake Purepower, fitted into (you guessed it) another Super Lanboy.

Any thoughts or suggestions?????

*Update..

Removed and replaced the HSF a couple of times. The 4 pins that hold it in place may have been the problem. At the moment we have "Lift Off". the next hiccup we came across was the Memory check.

It scrolls through doing it's check and when it gets to the 1024 point, it goes back to "0" and starts all over again. Sally pushed escape and bypassed it.

Other than the above problems, it is in the process of formatting.

Fingers crossed they are all "One Off" little hiccups.

    w00t...........crisis over. :D

Sally has setup the OS, done a number of reboots and it's a happy little camper.

No more problems with shutting down and after letting the memory checker do a few runs, it sorted itself out too.

Now on with setting up folding and we can rest again. (till the next time, lol).
