You don't really need or want Fat32 with Windows XP - I hate to give a comment that doesn't directly fix your problem, but your problem isn't exactly pressing either. The Windows NTFS is supremely superior to FAT32.

You can read about the benefits of NTFS here.

I am with Thrax on this, NTFS is far Superior than a fat32 system.

    But here is why
If this was a new drive, Windows XP (home or Pro) does not give the option for formatting any other way but NTFS,
if it was an old drive you had and was Fdisked but not formatted again nothing but ntfs

If the drive was formatted with a win98 or ME start up disk it would have been fat32, and the selection should have been there, the only reason I have seen it not be is when the format was bad or the HDD was bad, (sectors) and then again it defaults to NTFS.

It also my best guess is that with hard drives around 60GB and over, Windows XP won't let you format them as FAT32 anyway.

FAT32 is less secure, and less reliable than NTFS anyway. NTFS can recover data that is temporarily lost through bad sectors, unlike FAT32 where it is permanently lost.

Your not getting the option because the partition is simply to large.
