Hi!

I got a AT7-MAX2 to work with(not sure if it's a good model for amd since it's old). I got it from a friend. Anyway i need a new CPU and new RAM, for it to start working. I'm thinking about putting a XP2500-M, however since it's for mobile and the board i got isn't really new, i'm worried about compatibility between them. Should i go for 2500-M or to play safe go for a non mobile cpu? Other than 2500-M, is there any other better cpu(bang for the buc)? As for the fan, i have a aeroflow lying around(it's pretty quiet :thumbsup: ).

The ram i can get hold of right now is Samsung. I hope this is a good brand.

PS. If im going to get a new fan for cpu and my only choice are thermaltake, which model should i get?

Thanx in advance!!

    It is likely the motherboard supports a mobile CPU. According to Abit's website, a BIOS version released on 3/27/2003 added support for both the Barton and the Thorton. A later BIOS update as of October 2003 added support for the Applebred and Appaloosa-based Durons. These four cores represent the very newest, and last, revisions of the Duron and the Athlon XP.

    It is very likely that, since the board supports very new chips, it also supports mobile CPUs. I'd be surprised if the computer didn't boot with it, since as far as I know, the only difference between a mobile and a Barton is the status of the bridges.

    Samsung is a decent brand.

    //EDIT:

    After browsing google for about 30 minutes I found a forum post that shows someone using an AT7-MAX2 in combination with a 2500-M. The forum was dead, but I managed to wrestle up a google cache.
