    Download CWShredder from here & run it. Select the fix button & it will fix everything related to CoolWebSearch that is stored in it's database. Close ALL windows, including Internet Explorer, before running CWShredder. Reboot.

    To help prevent this from happening again, install the patches for the vulnerabilities that this hijacker exploits by going here for your critical updates.

    Reboot after doing this & post another log please.

    Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B9D90B27-AD4A-413a-88CB-3E6DDC10DC2D} - C:\WINDOWS\MSOPT.DLL

    I would also seriously consider the removal of Kazaa. It is a known problem area.

    Please go here and have this file scanned.

    With that file did you hit the choose button then navigate to the folder.htt file? I did a google on it and there was a mention of it being bad on Trend Micro's site. Could be nothing though.

    ok, i've found folder.htt in some of my folders and done a scan on 2 of them and both scan results tell me i'm clean. are these folders.htt suppossed to be there? or am i supposed to delete them even though they are clean?

    What are the contents of them? Seems fishy to have something like that in your startup folder. Usually you only place files that you want started at startup in there and some nasties place themselves in there too. Without knowing what is in there, I don't know.

    can i just remove it using hijack this? also i've tried to update but it always fails halfway.

    Yes. You can remove that entry with hijackthis.

    Try downloading this file;
