Halo2 Has Arrived!!

Well, who picked it up already? I did a midnight pickup and played it for about 3 hours online and I thought it was great. The stats Bungie puts up online are insane too!! Anyone interested in a SM clan?? (Loosely organized of course;))

Live name is the same as my name here if someone wants to add and play.

Oh yeah, I beat single player and its excellent, even in funny languages!!

I stood in line for 2 hours last night waiting to get my two preorders. I only got to play about 45 minutes before I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore.

I'm working right now, so I am missing out. This pisses me off. I have a test at 2 also. Damn it! Haha.

Oh, well. I know what I'm doing this evening.

i just walked into wal-mart at midnight and bought it. no problem, no line. everyone i know that preordered had to wait longer to get it than i did.

I preordered and was planning to go to the midnight release but then the thought occured to me; After I get it and return home at about 12:30 I have to go to bed right away. So I would have it but would not be able to play it until the ensueing afternoon. It would give me a brand new "teddy bear" but since Gametop is going to hold my copy for up to 2 days I think I can wait.

It also kinda stinks being 4 hours behind some of you guys, you got to play it before me. :bawling: :bawling:

Haha. It was insane. There were at least 250 people waiting to pick up their preorders, and that's only counting the people who got the numbered flyers. I was 147th in line. A lot of people brought a couple friends with them, so there was quite a large group outside the store.

I wanted the limited edition anyway. That's why I preordered. I didn't know if there would be any available after release.

my local compusa (which i dont think anyone knows is there) has a huge pile of halo2's, including special editions, sitting on a table. im probably gonna head back and pick one up later

I picked up my copy last night at my local GameStop without even pre-ordering it. 450 people in line! The nerdy guy that works there guarneteed I would never get a copy opening day. Well, it certainly was fun asking him for a Special Edition without a pre-order slip!

At any rate, the game is phenominal. I don't have my Xbox Live hooked up yet so ive just been playing split screen and the campaign, but I am amazingly impressed. Yes, it's better than the first one in just about every way.

When I get XBL up and running, i'd be all about a SM clan!

Yeah, I notice Gamespot tends to tell you that a game is so popular that you should definitely preorder. Every time I've called about a game, they say "We probably won't have any copies left if you don't preorder." That's bull most of the time.

The EB I preordered at is very popular though, so I wanted to be safe. Heh.

Yeah, that's usually why I make GameStop my last-resort place to pick up a new game. I'm just quite opposed to the entire idea of pre-ordering a game. Sure it gives the store a good estimate of how popular the game will be and how many copies to order, but it also gives them free money! That $10 you put down on a game 6 months in advance just sits in GameStop's bank collecting interest. It might not seem like a lot, but consider Halo 2 - 1.6 MILLION pre-orders at $10 a pop x a couple of months. That's a heck of a lot of money that the independent stores just can't compete against.

Yeah, there are copies of the game EVERYWHERE, pre-ordering was not needed, even for the special edition. I think you can buy it at 7-11 too, my local store had a sign up, but I didn't see any copies lying around ;D

Saw it played in Gamestop today while looking for EQII, I wasn't that impressed. It justs eems slightly better in graphics than the original and that's it.

Though I didn't see a while lot either.

Yeah, graphically Halo 2 isn't really insanley better than the original. The models are a bit more detailed, but the real difference comes out in the specular effects they put on metallic objects, the self-shadowing on models, better lighting in general, and the faces of the human characters. Also, the cutscenes use higher-poly models and bump-mapping and the effect is breathtaking - give it a chance.

LOL...they're not selling Halo 2 at the 7-11 actually, pseudonym - Slurpees just come in a Master Chief cup now :D

Gaaah! All this talk about the game and im stuck at the studio with no way to play it! I should've brought my Xbox with me today...

Don't feel too bad, I can't play either, stupid tests :bawling:

It was late when I went there, but I could've sworn it was about the game, and not slurpees!!

Times like this that I wish I had an XBox.

Guess I'll be forced to wait a year (or more) for the PC release before I can play though it. :bawling:

Nope. I don't really enjoy playing FPSs on a console, I'm waiting for the PC version. It's slated for 2nd Qtr. 2005. Probably about six months away... I'm patient.

Haha. I've been with the XBox since its beginning.

I preordered the first chance I got. I was there to pick it up before the doors opened. I was a beta tester for XBox LIVE, and I waited for two hours in line to grab my copies of Halo 2. :)

ya know... not to blaspheme... but i don't think halo 2 stands up to all the hype that gathered around it. the sound effects are light and tinny, i can't stand these stupid covenant levels, and i HATE the new banshee. dual yeild is neat in some ways. unfortunately most of my close-combat tactics i developed on halo 1 made **heavy** use of the melee attack, which throws the second gun down  and is it just me or do the plasma grenades not seem to stick as well? eh, i'm still undecided on whether or not i like it yet.
