.psd Thumbnail Previews

At my school, .psd files are shown just like a .jpg would show in thumbnail view in Windows XP. It has a little preview of the picture. They're using version 7 of Photoshop, so I assume CS has it, too? I looked all over and I can't find where it would be :(. Does anyone know how to enable this?

Probably needs to be a .psd graphics type association in Windows, for that to work with thumbnails. Otherwise, XP would not know what program filters to use.... In a box with full Photoshop, .psd is associated to Photoshop. AND, you probably are using Photoshop's graphic file browser to see them, right??? IF NOT using Photoshop's graphics browser, then XP needs the association for PSD hooked to Photoshop, and that is an install-time option with most graphics program installs (as to what file types to associate with what graphic program).

Specifically, since I do not have CS, cannot tell you line by line, but can point there as to how Photoshop and Elements essentially do this-- and other Adobe programs also.

Well, I know .psd are associated with Photoshop, because I can see the "PSD" logo thing. What I mean is if you go to Thumbnail view in a folder of .jpegs for example, you'll see a mini-picture. How can I get Windows to do this with the .psd files?

You can't as far as I know, as Windows doesn't natively support PSD.

That's what I had always thought. Thing is, I've seen it with my own eyes on some of our school copmuters. I dunno, maybe it's a plugin or something, though I doubt it. I'll keep digging, I suppose.

    Edit:
The magic of a little searching... (sad part was, it took all of about 5 minutes :-/. When will I ever learn?):
Photoshop CS doesn't create thumbnail previews (Windows)

    Issue

Adobe Photoshop doesn't create thumbnail previews for images on the desktop or in Windows Explorer.

Solution: View images in the File Browser in Photoshop.

Choose File > Browse to open the Photoshop File Browser and view and open images.

    Background information

Previous versions of Photoshop produced thumbnail previews for images by using the psicon.dll file. This file isn't installed with Photoshop CS.

In Windows Explorer, if you choose View > Thumbnails, Windows Explorer displays thumbnail previews for some image formats, such as JPEG files; however, it cannot display thumbnail previews for native Photoshop (PSD) files.

There must be a way/plugin (3rd party, maybe) to get this back...
