Spyware Shooter and Hosts update info?
Hello-
I tried to download the spyware shooter link in your signature, but the link wont connect. I did download the Host file, but im not sure how to actually update it. What you said about updating sounds good, but I dont know how to manually do so. I went to the link from which I downloaded it, and I didnt find any info about manualy updating it, unless I overlooked it?

2) To update your HOSTS file, go to My Computer»C:\»Windows, or My Computer»C:\»Windows»System32»Drivers»etc and right click "HOSTS". In the menu select "Open With" and open it with Wordpad. At the bottom of the file, add entries that look like this:
127.0.0.1 WEBSITE.URL
127.0.0.1 SUBDOMAIN.WEBSITE.URL
127.0.0.1 tells your computer that the website is located on your own computer, which it is not. Therefore, you will get a "Page Cannot be Displayed" 404 error rather than a file download or a webpage/image being displayed. Change "WEBSITE.URL" to the URL of the website (the www prefix does make a difference here, and don't use http://) and if the website also has a subdomain (for example, spywareshooter.50free.net is a subdomain of 50free.net), block that using the form of the second example. However, hosts files cannot use wildcards, where the "Restricted Sites" (used by Spyware Shooter and some other spyware blockers) can, making "Restricted Sites" more efficient. But the "Restricted Sites" zone only blocks cookies, Javascript, ActiveX controls and Downloads, where the HOSTS file blocks everything on that domain, so a combination of both is good protection.
