ntldr is missing

edited November 2004 in Hardware
My friend helped me put in my mobo and format the drives. Everything was all set until he restarted and got ntldr is missing. I had a slave drive in here to and i guess it affected that one as well. When I had the 10gb hdd in the same custom pc but different mobo it worked fine. He said he formatted it and still got the error

it used to be a 98 OS in an IBM. and the 80GB is new.

any ideas on to fixing this??

Try old drive hooked up as Primary IDE bus, SLAVE, and jumpered as slave. Try the 80 jumpered as Primary IDE bus, Master. With both powered up, does XP boot??? If yes, it stuck its boot stuff on the 10 GB drive but XP ended up on the 80 GB drive except for boot stuff (I've got one of those situations here, BOTH drives have to be in computer at same time to boot XP).

If no boot and NTLDR error, reverse jumpers and IDE connections on cable (BOTH), make the 80 Gb the slave, and the 10 Gb the master and if THAT works then the boot stuff for XP is on the master (old 10 GB) drive.

IF neither works, the install is corrupt or illegal or incomplete or only one drive was in computer when XP was installed, or the XP boot stuff was wiped off the old HD somehow.
