HSA and Downloader.Agent :( HJT log - teica

I'm having serious trouble with my computer lately! My home page has been hijacked by Home Search (about:blank), and I keep finding Trojan Horse Downloader.Agent.2.BM and BO viruses. I've seen a lot of posts with these problems, tried everything that was suggested and nothing seems to work. To give you an idea, I've used HSRemove, Spy Bot Search and Destroy, AdAware, mwav, CWShredder (updated all of them)... I've done it in safe mode, and in normal mode, turned off system restore... I'm seriously running out of ideas. Followed your method of removing Home Search fixing certain files found with hijack this, specifically R1, R0 entries, and the O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6EFA1A5C-5C50-9372-566B-822D6BC8B2D7} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkqh32.dll (I was afraid of making a mistake, but it's back anyway...) I used to have an O4 entry in hijack this log which I figured I should remove after reading your HSA Removal Guide, but after I ran all of the programs I listed above, it dissapeared.
As for the Downloader.Agent virus, I get alerts every time I log on to the internet, and try to read my email on hotmail (which I can't...). I get four alerts, and each time, it specifies 4 different .exe files in C:\WINDOWS and C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32. I log off, scan with AVG, it finds about 10 infected files, removes them, I scan again, it's fine, I log on to the internet again, and get the alerts, with different file names... you get the picture! Someone suggested running AVG in safe mode, however, my AVG won't work in safe mode, it says something is missing?...
Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Your log looks okay now. Are you still having any problems?
  • edited November 2004
Everything working fine, except I can't log into hotmail! Somebody suggested this might be due to them upgrading, but I can access my email just fine from another computer. I've also tried logging in from the msn site, but it just doesn't work. The page starts to load, says it's done, and I have a blank page in front of me! I can't even make a new account - inbox just won't load.
I started having problems with my email when that whole trojan downloader.agent virus thing started. I did an online virus scan on housecall while I was having these problems, and had to remove a zip file because it found a JAVA BYTEVER.A virus in it.
Did I remove something I shouldn't have? Is there something I can download to get it working again?
Thanks for all your help! :)

HSA may have changed a setting in your Browser to disable meta refreshing.

In Internet Explorer, go to the following:
    Tools»Internet Options»Advanced
    or
    Tools»Internet Options»Internet»Custom Level

And make sure that Meta Refresh is enabled in both of those settings, then restart your browser and see if it makes any difference.

Did all that, no result! It's not really bothering me that much anymore though because I am seriously switching to firefox  , and I can access hotmail with it anyway!
If you do get any other ideas about this, I'm sure you guys will let everyone know how to fix this problem cause I've seen other posts similar to mine!
So thanks again for all your help!!!
