<i>At 2.2GHz the Opteron was able to win every test except the SPECviewperf benchmark. This increases the total from 11 to 15 out of 17. Keep in mind however that the actual 2.2GHz Opteron would not have memory running at 220MHz, and that it would be at 200MHz instead. However also keep in mind that these tests were run at Cas 2.5 for the Opteron while the Athlon and P4 had Cas 2 memory. At any rate this is a good indicator of 2.2GHz performance.

So we can now conclude that a 2.2GHz or faster Opteron/Athlon 64 CPU can and does surpass the 3.2GHz P4 in performance. Will 64 bit give the CPU a larger gain over Intel's offerings? We eagerly await 64 bit games from Valve and Epic to find out, and hope to see several applications ported and also optimized so we can find out. Until then we wait to discover the launch speed for the Athlon 64, and hope that this week we find out much more about the CPU, and also can pick up more details on the mobile Athlon 64."</i>
