OS on SATA + RAID133 for secure storage

edited November 2004 in Hardware
Hi!

I'm looking for a motherboard that features:
AGP 8X
USB2
FireWire
WiFi
SATA controller (for the OS)
ATA133 RAID1 (mirroring).

I found the Asus K8V SE Deluxe, that has a bundled Promise R20378 RAID controller, but I'm not sure the RAID features it provides can be applied to the ultraDMA133. I'm affraid it's for SATA drives only, just like the RAID on the motherboard.

I think it's rather stupid that motherboard manufacturers provide RAID1 (almost) only for SATA drives. It would a good way to recycle our old hard drives if we could use them for storage with raid1 (for security) and use the SATA drives for the OS.

Could anyone help?

btw, the motherboard can be for any processor, since I'm buying a new one as well, depending on the motherboard I choose.

Thank you!

The soon to be released Nforce 4 mobos will have Raid functionality acrros all of the chipset SATA & IDE connections (4 ports & 2 channels/4IDE))

Also you can grab any Athlon 64 from Abit, Epox or MSI and you can get a cheap Promise or HPT IDE Raid 0/1 card

As for now Look into the DFI NFII Ultra Infinity (Nforce2 Ultra400. It has 4 SATA ports and you can use 2 SATA/IDE converters to get your SATA Boot drive and IDE Raid 1 Setup

or if you can find a Epox 8KRA2+ (KT600)it has 2 SATA ports (Raid 0/1) and a HPT372 IDE Raid Controller (Raid 0/1/0+1)
