Doom 3 Hardware Question.

edited November 2004 in Hardware
Is this normal. I play doom 3 with every detail and quality to the lowest setting. I still get some lag playing. My system is.....

AMD athlon xp 2800 barton core
1024 Dual DDr Setup with pc4000 Kingston Hyperx
geforce 2 FX 5600 game card
300gb SATA Harddrive
Running windows XP prof.

Should I be seeing any lag on low settings? I mean if i put high detail then its just too slow. I thought my setup would be perfect. Any advice appreciated.

Your setup seems to be fine, except the video card. A Geforce 2 won't even run the game, (I don't think), but a Geforce FX 5600 would. (albeit slowly...) Make up your mind which one is it? :D

I suggest a better video card, the rest of your system is great, but you still shouldn't be seeing lag at lowest detail settings, i don't think. Maybe you've got a problem somewhere else?

Yeah, which card do you have? If it's a geforce 2, you're out of luck - the game will run like total crap no matter what. If it's a geforce FX 5600, try using the very latest drivers. The game should run decently on a card like that, so perhaps you have other problems like spyware or something.
