iMac Not Picking up D-linl Di-604 Router

edited November 2004 in Science & Tech
I just bought a D-link Di-604 router to create a network at home. I have a PC, a laptop and an iMac. Without configuring the router, just plugged everything in and the PC and laptop now have internet etc. The iMac won't pick up the router.

I now all the cables and ports are good. The iMac was set to DHCP and if I bypass the router and just plug in the internet straight from the cable modem, it works. I even brought the iMac to work and it did not pick up the network there.

does it have to do with the strength of the signal coming through the patch cable?

No, it doesn't. There is no "strength" in ethernet networking, it's packet based.

First of all, does the iMac run OS 9 or OSX?

It primarily runs Mac OS X Panther but has OS 9 on it.

I tried setting it with DHCP and with a static IP but nothing.

okay, so I'm assuming you've tried it in both OS9 and OSX?

No, just OS 9. Didn't think to try on OS 9

Sorry, typo. I meant I only tried it on OS X and not OS 9

I want to eliminate software as the problem - try it on 9 and tell me what happens.

Thanks, I'll write back on Monday.

I gave the router to a co-worker who has Macs ans PCs on his home network to see if his Macs pick up the router.

Sorry for the late reply, I tired on OS 9 and still the iMac does not pick up the network signal from the router.

Thinking the next route is to get a USB ethernet adapter.
