Search Assistant Problems

Of course, like most people, I've had problems w/the &%$#^@ Home Search Assistant & it taking me to stupid Search websites (about.com). Ihad already downloaded Ad-Aware SE a few weeks ago & run it often to keep things clean, but HSA already snuck in & I can't get it out. I also downloaded CWS Shredder & was told it would work- but still no avail. I also recently downloaded the Spyware gaurd offered by my serevr- SBC DSL. I run Windows 98, so have to do it this way, instead of following the removal guide. I ran a Windows Update & downloaded Spybot SD. Updated Ad-Aware & Spybot & ran both. Downloaded Hijackthis & ran it. I've tried to attach the report from Hijackthis, but it's being saved as an Adobe Photoshop File (!??!). I also want to ask a couple of other things things.

1-I've got a lot of different Spyware killers on my PC. I don't need all of them do I? Which should I keep & which to ditch?

2- also SBC DSL offers a free firewall to it's users. Is this a good thing to download? I think it might be, because when I try, HSA doesn't like it & redirects me to it's crap.

Thanks
-Eric

Please download HijackThis and post a log.

1)Keep Ad-Aware and Spybot. Those are the two best ones.
2)Yes, you should use a firewall.

I had downloaded Hijackthis.exe. & ran it. I can't post the log, because for some reason it's saving the log as a AdobePhotShop file instead of a Notepad file.

When you save it, does it automatically open up the log in Notepad? If so, copy that text and paste it in here, that's all we need.

If it does not open in Notepad, let us know and we'll figure out something else :)
