CPU upgrade

My friend has a motherboard with a 1.6 ghz 0.18 um core (its a centrino). can it run a 0.13 um core centrino or is he only limited to ones with 0.18 um cores?

    Depends on the state of the BIOS and hardware-level support.

    Its a dell so im guessing there isnt too much to work with
