Diskeeper Pro

edited November 2004 in Science & Tech
I ran diskeeper around 4 times and under the driver map my C drive has no fragmented files but it is still under the warning stage. 80GB 56% free) and my D drive is at the warning stage I ran it 4 times as well and this one has alot more fragmented files still. (120GB 45% free)

Does this affect alot?

You could always try doing an offline defrag.

The latest version can do a defrag on the next boot too...

I'm running V7.0 workstation and unless I close down all applications I don't usually get the 'Congratulations, this drive is 100% fragmented' message.

I do stay connected online though, that doesn't seem to affect things.

The MFT is probably full ;) That's why it's in "warning". Blow I have attached a picture of where to find the status. If it's high (like 99%) you can fix this by doing THIS TWEAK.

Diskeeper 9 has some great tools to tweak your MFT and pagefile. I'm gonna have a review up soon, but as a before-the-review tip, I can say I definitely recommend 9 over older versions..

Perhaps time to upgrade from V7.0 then?

I also look forward to that review :)

Im reading this thing and Im sure this is the one but Dont get it

    MFT Fragmentation
    Views: 94,569 | Avg. Rating: 2 out of 5 (81 Votes) | Print

After installing your XP/2000 PC with all software and data. Run at Cmd line like FOR /L %f in (1,1,10000) do md %f

And then (not on root dir. C:\) FOR /L %f in (1,1,50000) do echo Hey > %f

This will create 10000 dir and 50000 files that you can delete. This increases the MFT size. Download Diskkeeper demo. Run MFT defrag once and you will probaby never need it again :).

    Bye ;)

Here, I made a one click solution. Open it, it'll tell you when it's done. Then run Diskeeper! ;)

aznherb36, your drives are just being fragmented from everyday use. There's nothing you can do to stop it (except not use the computer). They're fine. Modern computers don't need to be defragged as much as older systems, and once a week for heavy usage is enough. Don't worry about it.. you won't be able to tell the difference at all ;)

I looked around the site as well. I did the Faster Xp boot which is helping. and I say this http://tweakxp.com/tweak557.aspx it says 3 is recommended and it is already on 3.

    0-Disable, 1-App launch prefetch, 2-Boot Prefetch, 3-Both ("3" is recommended).

Im not sure what prefetch is. Could someone please explain to me what will happen if I use 1 or 2
