Quiet/Silent CPU Fans?

I'm running an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ cpu on an MSI KT3 Ultra 2 mobo. It's a couple years old, but it's reliable and I haven't had any problems with it. However it is EXTREMELY loud. I narrowed the source of the noise to the cpu fan (generic one that came with the cpu). Anyone know of any good quiet/silent fans out there? Thanks :)

If you are using the retail hsf or a generic hsf that came with the proc, then I would recommend that you swap out both the fan and heatsink. I was looking around and ran across the Swiftech MCX-462 being sold by Inflow Direct for $23, which is a damn good deal for that high quality a heatsink. Couple it with a 39 cfm Sunon fan in their selector box ($4 added) and you will have a heatsink that performs a lot better than your present hsf and quietly too. The only problem with the Swiftech heatsink is that you will have to pull the mobo out of the case when you mount the heatsink the first time. I have one of these beasts and they perform well.

I suggest a Thermaltake SmartFan II. With an adjustable CFM of 13-81, it allows you to set the combination of performance and noise that you care to tolerate.
