DSL and very slow downloads. Please Help. Tempting101

hello again,
I recently got DSL at my house and my download will not go over 20 KB/s. I purchased the 384 Kb/s package so i would think i would get a faster speed than that. If there are any tweaks or something that can make my downloads any faster can you please help me out. Thank you very much. And i have a SpeedStream 5100 modem if that helps any. Thank you very much.     Hmm, a 384 package should top out at about 38 kilobytes/second. Do you have the DSL on the same line as your phone? Do you use a router?

    yes i have it on the same line as my phone but i have the filters installed on every phoneline which i cut the phones down to 5 because i was told 5 or more phones could mess up my connection. Thank you for your help. Jarrett
