Fastest processor for this MB?

I have a DFI AZ30-TL motherboard. It was to be a replacement for an EMachines computer but ended up not getting used.

It has a 200/266 FSB rating. It's a Socket A / 462 AMD MB. What's the fastest (as in best for folding) processor I can put on this board and then maybe overclock it some more?

I would think that with pinmodding the proper multiplier (like a real high one), you should be able to run any mobile XP, just set around a 17 or higher multiplier by pinmodding it. Since the KM266 chipset (which that mobo uses)doesn't have a lock on the AGP and PCI busses, you will realistically be limited to around a max of 150 fsb or so though.

If you want a drop-in, any of the MP series of procs will work with no problems, but they cost more than a mobile XP.

Well, I meant what's the fastest STOCK (unmodified) processor that this MB will take? An Athlon XP, maybe? What speed rating?

Maybe I should say the fastest stock processor I can find for under $100-$125 on eBay or elsewhere.

Balance between cost and speed. I can't afford to spend $50 more for an extra 100 Mhz.

Well, that would be a Tbred XP2600/266 fsb proc, but they're kind of rare and hard to find. Far more common to find would be the XP2400.

BTW, doing the wire in the socket trick isn't that hard to do to hard mod multipliers, if you want to try a mobile XP in it. They have a good interactive guide on this over at ocinside.de's site.

Okay, thanks. I looked on eBay and saw a lot of 266 FSB AMD's in the 1700 to 2400 range. I think there was a 2600 in there too.

That's what I'll look for. Since these processors are older, would they be unlocked, or at least able to be unlocked?

As of the middle or end of 2002 (I believe) all of the XP lineup were T-Bred B's because I bought a new XP1800+ for my birthday '02 and it was a the T-Bred B core and if I remember correctly by the begining of 2003 all the XP's out were T-Bred B based (yeah Barton has more L2 cache but that's really all the differencethere is) so if you find any retailer that's selling standard XP's now they'll be T-Bred.
