I dont understand the log file but dvd burners can be very picky about the quality of disc put in them. Have you updated the firmware on the drive to the latest version & also updated nero?

    Get firmware updates here

Pioneer drives really happen to like Memorex discs; and yeah, new firmware is also an excellent idea.

Im using nero 6.6, also have firmware 1.4 which i believe is the latest. The disks are bulkpaq 4x orange generation 4. My old pioneer 105 had no problems burning any of these disks, but it was limited to 4 x only. I updated to the 108 and had disks left over so thought i would use them up. Hence im burning 4x on nero 6.6 with pioneer 108, firmware 1.4. Any idea's, the person who i bought the dvd writer off claimed he has burned 100's of dvd bulkpaq orange with this writer?

I wouldn't think it's the burner. I have the same one and Nero 6 and haven't a problem. I'm currently useing some Verbatim discs.

Im currently using 1.4 which is the latest i think, should there be an update i would have no clue how to install it, had that problerm before, hence the dvd writer i have now. Using windows ME which doesn't automatically install update firmware.

As Thrax & I said, if you click on the link I provided you, you'll see that 1.04 is the oldest firmware, not the newest. 1.14 is the newest so I suggest you upgrade to that first then take it from there.

Ok I've just downloaded it & its a self extracting exe file so you just click it & let it do its stuff.

You can get it from Pioneer

    HERE

    Its called R108_FW114EU.EXE

Ok i finally fixed the dvd writer, it now burns dvd-r's to disk. I have yet another problem.

I have my dvd rom set to master, slave is the dvd writer. When im burning during nero 6.6 the buffer is jumping from 15 % to 100 every couple of seconds. It takes 14 minutes burning on 8x bulkpaq orange to burn 3.5 GB's. It also takes 1 minute to read the disk before burn. One other problem during the burning it states that there is 5 minutes left from start to finish. Yet the counter runs out but carries on burning for an addition 9 minutes until 100 percent is done. My ide cables are going from motherboard to slave dvd writer to dvd rom master (same cable). I get the feeling that it is reading it then burning it, reading a bit more then burning it. I used the speed test on nero dvd and it came back as 2.56 average for my dvr 105 which is my reader, and 9x for my writer which is dvr108 pioneer. The firmware for my reader is 1.10. Should the buffering be jumping like mad, with my other burners i used to own it stayed on 100 percent or 99 for the intire burning. Any idea's, it seems a waste to have 8x when it takes the same time as it does with 4x to burn a disk. Any genius's want to help this un-educated idiot.

I was told by a friend last night to have an ide cable going from motherboard to hard-drive then to writer. Then additional cable from motherboard to dvd reader, basically to speed up the burning, would this help. Does it make a difference keeping it on the same ide. My ide is going from motherboard to writer to reader, not going anywhere near the harddrive. I do have a cable from motherboard to harddrive seperatly. Please help, driving me mad.

Last but not least, i have 2mb of ram left, i bought 128mb's but installed windows me recently which took up 126 of the block of ram, I cannot see how that can be right to be honest.

    Hi Mavity,

How did you fix the burning issue then??

With regard to the ide cables, the way I used to have mine setup when I used P-ATA drives was to have the Rom & writer on seperate channels as this seemed quickest & produced less coasters when recording from disc to disc. In your case I'd have the hard drive on Ide1 set to master. The dvd rom drive on Ide 1 set to slave and the DVD writer on Ide 2 set to master.

With regards to ram, are you saying that you only have 128mb's in total installed? If so I'd definitely recommend you get another 128mb stick installed so that 256mb in total.

What are you doing, backing up a DVD? I'd suggest you ripped a copy of the original first to the hdd using your writer, then burnt it to the blank straight from the hdd.

//edit - I suggest DVD Decrypter which is an excellent little piece of software

It was basically a set of faulty disks which i got hold off from a friend. I basiaclly wanted to copy exsiting dvd's which i have, they are all under 4.7 so thought it would be wise doing disk to disk. To burn them to hardrive then to disk instead takes longer on my computer. On a 8x dvdr how long should it ruffly take to burn 4.7 gb's, mine takes 18 minutes using my pioneer 105 as a reader, and 108 as a writer. It seems a long time considering 4x disks i have take about the same time. Any idea's. ?

It takes 8 minutes to put this on HDD, so with that in mind, it wouldn't be any faster for me. Unless i was making multiple disks of the same film.
