MS-6340M V.5 CPU settings

edited December 2004 in Hardware
Hi Everyone! I stumbled upon your board and it looks like a great place to read, ask questions and gain some knowledge.
My present problem is I am trying to upgrade my CPU. I have a MS-6340M V.5 MOBO and I am trying to get an Athlon XP 1600+ processor to run up to speed which is supposed to be 1400mhz. By default it is set at 1050mhz.
I changed the latency settings and was able to get it to run stable @1134mhz
but that is it. According to MSI I should be able to run up to an Athlon 2600+ on this board http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=23&kind=1
I presently have the bios flash 6340v61.exe (3rd on the list) installed. It is supposed to support up to a 2000+ CPU.
I have flashed one MOBO in the past without any problems (k7s5a V.1) but their instructions are quite a bit different than the way I did it before and I am not sure I need to change it anyway.
Any advice is appreciated.
I will be running 768mb of pc133 ram and have 2 hard drives, 1-10gb and one 60gb. It has 2 rom drives.
Thanks in advance!
Storm

If that mobo is anything like the K7T Turbo2 mobo I used to have, there was a jumper on the board to select 100 or 133 fsb speeds. Your board is booting up at 100 fsb instead of 133 fsb, hense it running at 1050 MHz instead of 1400 MHz. I just d/l'ed the manual for that board and you need to have a jumper installed on "J6", which is directly below the AGP slot, according to the manual.

Thanks! I didn't get a manual with this ultra cheap system or I would have looked in it. I could not get the one on the MSI website to open. It runs much better now,
    Thanks again,
