streaming audio?

ive been trying to find a solution to this for a while now:

I want to be able to play my mp3s on my htpc which is connected to a stereo system, while controlling them from my laptop. Right now i am using winamp, and i would like to stream the music over the network. I used shoutcast for a bit, but there was a noticable lag just over the local network (i think resulting from the on-the-fly compression). Is there any way i can stream the audio uncompressed using shoutcast? or is there some other method i can use to send the audio without an annoying lag?

almost relatedly, is there a way to set up a shared winamp library?

    why use shoutcast??

just share the folder with the mp3s in it, and then play it on the HTPC.

thats what im doing right now (with VNC), but i have my winamp library set up on my laptop for use when im actually at my desk. i dont want to have to maintain multiple winamp libraries. Additionally, I have Napster on my laptop, and it would be nice to stream that music to the HTPC.
