Ok its been a while since i had cable net but its the same way to network it I believe. I got the Linksys cable modem. I poped the cable from the back of the modem to my pc works fine. took the cable from the back of my pc out plugged it into a Linksys broadband router. then ran 1 cable to my pc and one to my friends No go at all. hmmmm I get thinking well maybe its the router. So i replace the router i had with a standard networking hub. BINGO My pc is online. BUT the other pc wont get online. Sooooo i reformat it sine he has so much crap wrong with his pc anyways. I get XP pro installed and still no work. I try a diff network card. Still no work. hmmmmmmmmmm /me looks ar device manager and see he doesnt have a 1394 NET Adapter.

My question is that the problem? no 1394 net adapter?

and if it is how do i get him one?

BTW forgive me networking is not my thing!

Edit:// I should also note that the router light he is plugged into is blinking and all so its not the LAN card on his pc

1394 is the firewire port, nothing to do with his network card.

only 1 computer is going online is because u have it plugged into a hub, and you are getting the IP, he is not sharing the same WAN ip.

plug it back into the linksys router, and open up your browser and type in 192.168.1.1 that should take you to the setup page, and then set it up so DHCP is enabled, and get IP auto(dynamic IP), that should get you online.

What OS and stuff is your buddy running. You need to try running the XP network setup wizard once you know that both you guys are using network cards that work. Don't use a firewire card. Just get WORKING network cards in both machines.
