I'm lookin for a new RTS game to play mainly multiplayer. I've been playing Command and Conquer Generals for a while, and the multiplayer isn't always reliable (out of sync and such) when playing with more then 2 people. So I was just wonderin if any of you guys are playin and newer more badass RTS games. I don't really like Warcraft 3 much, but other then that I'm not really sure what is out there in the genre. Has anyone played Empires (game made by empire earth ppl)? Empire Earth 2 comes out in Feb, but I don't think I want to wait that long. Thanks.

You could always try Rise of Nations (review). Haven't tried the expansion pack but the original is really good.

My friend and I are about to start in on Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. I thought it looked gay when I saw the previews/ads, but after seeing the demo version, it looks decent. Just a thought.

I agree, Starcraft is great. Warcraft III is pretty good as well, but I'm not really any good at it. Starcraft is a lot easier for me. Maybe I just get sucked into WC's prettier graphics, not leaving much brain space to operate an empire. :-/

Homeworld 2 is good (and difficult). I wish I could play it, but I suck at RTS games to begin with, and the Homeworld series is over the top for me.

Intro Video - how's that for a frickin' purdy RTS? :p

    Warhammer 40k Demo

(The Intro Video is included in the Demo, I think, and it'd be a lot higher quality/resolution...)

And just so you know - I suck royally at RTS games :-/. It's a shame because I think Zero Hour looks awesome if you're good. And Ground Controll II, as well. I just suck lol :bawling:

    Warhammer was great
Homeworld 1 and 2 are awesome
And the new LOTR RTS is coming out in a few, supposed to be real good.

Anyone here ever play Lords of Everquest? I liked it better than Star Craft myself, your characters could be leveled, and you had resource points which you could use to bring over your best troops to bring to the next level by choice of what ever you have left of what you created. It's pretty cool.

Ohh and I loved Star Craft, still play it from time to time, but Lords of Everquest has alot of fun stuff in it too! :)

I did. Then I realized I was playing Warcraft III with different races. It's virtually identical; right down to macros, movement, the UI, and resource/level control.

Really? Never played any of the Warcraft games myself...

Yeah. The resemblance is uncanny. Shift some races around, and LoEQ = WC3. It's such a rip off. ;D

Warhammer and homeworld 1 or 2. If you like RTS, these will keep you going for a while. The only drawback is the solo campaign is a little short and then that's it. I played it for a week and I am just left with Multiplayer. I perfer to go solo and Hoimeworld 2 is the only game that I have EVER played that I have wanted to beat and have not been able to. Plus , the auto saves are helpful in letting you try new stratagies.

I just started playing warhammer - enjoying it - very warcraft/Starcraft - but different enough to engage my interest

I love Homeword 2 and must go back to it - it's a damn hard game to master

IMO you will not find one that is as cool as C&C Generals. Best RTS game ever as far as gameplay goes. But of course it has some MAJOR flaws such as the one you mentioned about the game mismatch errors. Also I wish there was a territory victory option, similar to what you can do in Rise Of Nations, which is a great alternitive.

    So the runners up are:
    Rise Of Nations + expansion.
Panzers: Phase One is neat, although quite different than traditional RTS games.
Ground Control 2 is OK too...

These are games I have played and enjoyed, but C&C Generals is just the most fun for multiplayer battles from what I have found.

I hope EA is working on a sequel to Generals. That would rock!

I will have to try some of the others people have mentioned.
