=/ please help me with removing home search assistant and etc..

hi..i've never used a forum before and i'm not that great at computers but i really need help with removing home search assistant, search extender, and shopping wizard from my computer. i've already downloaded hijackthis and i posted a log for you. i've tried looking at the other short-media forum posts but i'm afraid to 'fix/delete' any of the items just in case the files are different. so if you can please tell me exactly what to delete, that would be great. and hopefully everything would be solved..

thanks

here's my log:

Hello and welcome to short media.
If you havent already please download and install Adaware SE and Spybot.

ok i just double checked everything and there are still some of the same files that are present.. i'm pretty sure that i deleted them too.

and does 'reboot' mean to restart? because i restarted the computer after too.

    Yes. Same exact thing.

Did you do the cleanup in Safe Mode? If not, try that. (For Safe Mode just keep hitting F8 as soon as you turn the computer on. You'll eventually get a screen with a list of boot options, including Safe Mode. :)

ohhhh... so when i turn on the computer, i hit F8 and pick safe mode. and THEN clean up everything again. and it should be cleared?

just making sure before i accidentally do something wrong to mess up my computer.

Exactly. For any of the items SpywareShooter told you to remove that reference a file (all the ones that end in ".exe") make sure you do a search on your computer to make sure the file is really gone.

As you have probably discovered by now, removing Spyware is often a multi-stage process. Keep at it and you'll get it fixed.

You might also want to run Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware (available in the S-M download section) while still in Safe Mode.

ok i pressed F8 and nothing happened. but i saw that i could press F2=Setup and F12=Boot Menu. i wasn't sure what to press so i pressed F12 and this was what came up:

    Boot Device Menu

    1. Normal
    2. Diskette Drive
    3. Hard-Disk Drive C:
    4.IDE CD-Rom Device
    5. System Startups
    6. IDE Drive Diagnostics
    7. Boot to Utility Partition

    Pick one:_

so yeah.. i was kind of confused. so i didnt press anything. please tell me which one to pick.

Those are BIOS options for your motherboard. Try wating just a few seconds after startup (but before the "Starting Windows..." screen appears), then try F8.

Do you have one of those keyboards with lots of extra buttons, like for volume control, Internet, email, etc? If so, look and see if there is a button for F-Lock or "Function". My keyboard has the extra keys and also replaces the traditional F1-F12 keys with other shortcuts. Without having F-Lock on you'll never get it. Look for a light to indicate you have it right, mine is marked with an "F" with a circle around it; yours may be different.

Getting to the Startup screen can be a pain on some computers. I've worked on machines where it took me quite a few tries.
