New power supply causes computer to run hot?

I was just about to go to bed, and decided to check my hardware specs on my Winbond hardware monitor 2.70 that came with my NF7 MB. With folding at 100% and 2.2 Ghz (11 * 200) on the 2500+ Barton core, I was very surprised to see high numbers!

CPU temp was at 56 and case was at 31 Celsius. It had been steady at 47 and 28 with the old power supply! And it was taking a little over 4 minutes to fold a frame, as opposed to about 1:25 with the old PSU on the SAME WU.

The new Antec SL350 has a bottom mounted fan blowing right towards the CPU heat sink on one side. Could the change in airflow be screwing things up? It's less than an inch away from it.

Or maybe I need to redo the overclock to work with the new power supply?

I reduced the overclock back to 11 * 166 (Stock 1.83 Ghz), and temps dropped to 29 and 48. Still at 100% CPU load for folding. I put the voltages back to default settings also. That was only dropping 0.025 volts off the cpu.

Here's the voltages from Winbond Hardware Doctor 2.70:

Vcore 1.63
Vcc 2.61
Vio 3.25
+5 4.92
+12 11.68
-12 -12.44
-5 -4.99
Vsb 4.92
3.3 Dual 3.46

Fan rpms are the same as they used to be.

The psu should be sucking air away from the cpu, through itself & then blowing it out the back of the case. If the bottom fan is blowing air onto the cpu then the fan has been mounted the wrong way round inside it & would explain the rise in temps. It's blowing the heated air in the psu into the case & cpu cooler and is definitely causing a nasty rise in temps.

So I'd have to disassemble the power supply itself and turn the fan around?

Is that something I should try to do myself?

The power supply bolts into the computer case in one direction only.

Yep the PSU fan should be sucking air out.

You shouldnt really do that, plus it voids the warranty.

I just checked. It's not the fans. They are both blowing air in the right direction. From the case, through the power supply, and out the back.

The Antec manual says the fans are temperature controlled, so when it's cool they don't turn very fast.

So if that isn't the problem, what else could be? I was thinking maybe one or more of the voltages are too far off. Like the +12 volt line only showing +11.68 volts or something.

Well if the psu fans are temp controlled it could be they aren't shifting as much air as your previous psu hence the rise in temps. So you may need to ask yourself which do you value more, cooler temps or less noise. Can the fans on the psu be manually controlled as well? if so try turning them up & see if this makes a difference.

The old Powmax power supply only had a single fan on the back side. And the case fans make so much noise on this computer that the noise from power supply fans won't even be noticed. I cut out those grilles with all the tiny holes, which greatly increased airflow out of the case.

I don't think they can be manually controlled.
