Problem with P LaserJet 2300N on Windows 2000 Network. Ugh!

Okay. Here's the deal. We've got an HP LaserJet 2300N on our network along with about 25 other printers spread throughout our 6 offices listed in Active Directory. Until a few days ago when we had 3 new Canon Copier/Printer setups put on the network, the 2300 printed with no issues. This leads me to believe that the addition and installation of drivers for the Canons may have done something on the server.

What's happening now is that when anyone attempts to print, it defaults to the manual feed tray. You'd think this would be as simple as going into printing preferences and changing the default tray. Well, herein lies another problem. When attempting to access the printing preferences from an XP machine, it presents two errors and then doesn't show anything further. Those are the first two attached images. The third image is what happens when you attempt to view the preferences from a 2000 machine. After clicking OK, it shows the prferences anyway, but without the tab that allows you to select the tray.

Google has been no help. We've tried PS drivers and PCL drivers. I've managed to alleviate the error on a Windows 2000 machine by switching to the PCL, but it makes no difference on the XP machine. It still prints to manual feed though with no option to change.

I'd really like to avoid calling HP or MS, as I DESPISE dealing with tech support. It seems that quite a few have had very similar or the exact same problem, but I find no responses to the issues.

Has anyone experienced this and no how to fix it. I can't do the "format and reinstall" thing as this is our file and print server. People will jump our asses if it goes down for 30 seconds, let alone a day. Plus, there's a TON that would have to be reconfigured.

Any ideas? Thanks. I will clarify anything as necessary. I got about 5 calls while I was typing this, so I may have missed something or explained it improperly.

Have you tried using the AdobePS (1.06) drivers instead of windows drivers?

I've had similar problems and going to a whole different set of drivers fixed the problem..

I *finally* got to install the AdobePS drivers, and they work! Yay! But... I've got minimal options, and my boss doesn't like that. I'm getting ready to get on the phone with HP tech support, and I'm really dreading this. Any other ideas? Plleeaassseee... :)

Haha. And I'm very thankful. In fact, if it were up to me, I'd leave it at that. But, my boss wants the other options. No one uses them, so I see no reason to have them. Blah!
