Looking for a Laptop

First off I get discounts from Dell and Compaq/HP so I can save a little bit with either of them.

Well the price range would have to be around $1500 or so.

Specs:

-CPU: I want a Centrino, Dothan based. Considering the price range, from what I have looked at so far a 1.6-1.8 will be ok.
-RAM: 512 would be best but if I can save money and get an extra sick on my own and be cheaper I will do it.
-Screen size: 15" or 15.4". 14" seems small and the 17" screens are expenzive and power hungry.
-HDD: 30-40Gb is fine for me.
-Vid: I would like to have 64mb of RAM for it. One on powernotebooks has a 9700 with 128mb so thats nice and might sway me.
-Optical Drives: W/e it comes with.
-Wireless: I need wireless. Preferably b/g but on one of the systems I could get a/b/g for a little more.
-Warranty: I would like to get a 2 or 3 year warranty.
-OS: XP home is fine.

Dells seem to be overly priced. Like one I was pricing up came out to be like $2200 and with 12% off from Fed Ex and $250 off it still came out to be like several hundred bucks more than a similar Compaq, HP or Power Pro.

If I get a Dell, I get 12% off with a 3 or 4 year plan. Otherwise the discount is less.
PowerPros are offereing free upgrades to 3 year warranty.

So the ones I was looking at are:
PowerPro 5:6 Force or Supra
Dell Inspiron 8600
Compaq Presario X1000
HP Pavilion zt3000 series

So if anyone has any input I hope to be ordering soon. Maybe tonight.

Edit: I was able to price up a Dell to be lower. I was looking at the best configured 8600.

    mmonnin,

I just bought one of these for a gift for someone for Christmas:

    http://www.ubid.com/actn/opn/getpage.asp?AuctionId=10175265

I thought it was a good deal compared to the prices on the HP site. I don't know if it still qualifies with your discount, but thought I'd offer it up anyway. I personally use a zt3310us with a 705 (1.5 gig-1meg cache) and love the damn thing. Had to upgrade the centrino card from b to b/g myself, but Newegg had them for like $35.00 or something, I don't remember. Anyway, had mine for about 6 months and have a autoCAD on it and burn DVD+R's no prob. Battery hangs on for like 4-5 hours, too.

    Good Luck,
    Flint

P.S. As you can see, I bought mine this morning at 10:24 AM!

Well I ended up getting the Dell 8600.

    1.6 P-M, 512 RAM (2 sticks), 128mb Ati 9600 ProTurbo Video, WSXGA+ 15.4" Screen, 40Gb HDD, Dell 1450 a/b/g wireless, 24x CD Burner/DVD ROM, 90W AC-adapter, 3 year warranty, and Dell 920 All-In-One printer.

Overall it came out to be $1970 I think. But what I will pay is $1420 AFTER taxes. There was $250 off instantly, 12% Employee Discount which came out to be over $200, another $200 off Employee Discount for anything over $1800, and free shipping on the Laptop and the printer. So I ended up getting like $640 (Plus $69 in free shipping) off the Laptop before taxes which I couldnt get anywhere else. It might have been a little bit more to begin with but after all the discounts it came out to be less than Powernotebooks.com and Compaq.

Best thing about it, is that there are NO REBATES!! I hate rebates. I just sent one out today and I really dispise of rebates.

So by about the 20th I should have a nice new Folder, nice since I had to give out a working CPU to my GF. But this one will be better!

I cant wait. A new TOY!!
