How do I improve performance?

I have a 1-2 year old dell, with your basic programs on it. Recently i have installed Half Life 2, and on my C Drive i have 10.1 GB used and 64.3 GB space free. But my computer seems to be now running a lot slower. Is there anything I can do to help it run faster?

    Defrag your HDD? I mean since you have a Dell, you really can't OC much on it, except maybe your Graphics Cards... but that is more than likely limited depending on how hot your system gets. Plus can "viod" your warrantee.

    Just installing a program won't make your whole computer run slower, unless as RWB suggested, you severly fragmented your drive. But if a defrag doesn't make it run a little faster, you may have some other problems on your hand, like maybe you need more RAM or something.

    Have you checked for Spyware lately? Many of the computers I see nowadays that are running inexplicably slow are infested with a bunch of garbage using up their resources.

    Yea i've defragmented it just a few days ago... I was just making sure there wasnt anyother tricks to having it run faster...

    Also I have the program Ad-Aware 6.0. Is that a trustworthy program? Does it find a lot of the adware?

    AdAware 6 is definitely a trustworthy program. However, it has been replaced by a newer version - AdAware SE 1.05.. You can find the latest version on our security downloads page (link in my signature).

    No single spyware detection program removes or detects all spyware. You need to use a cocktail of software. I would read this and also the spyware article linked in my sig in order to give yourself a good primer on how to get a handle on spyware.
