Firefox Surpasses 10 Million Download Mark

edited December 2004 in Science & Tech
Firefox, the open-source challenger to market heavyweight Internet Explorer, has surpassed 10 million downloads in a little more than a month since the browser was released in November.
The free Web browser from the Mozilla Foundation surpassed 10 million downloads on Saturday as Web surfers continue to move away from Microsoft's market-dominating IE. The milestone highlights growing frustration with the security vulnerabilities that have dogged IE during the past few months. Nearly two dozen holes in the Web browser have been discovered during the fall, ranging in degrees of seriousness.

"It seems that people are switching from Microsoft's Internet Explorer to Mozilla's new Firefox browser," Niels Brinkman, co-founder of research firm OneStat.com, said in a statement in November.

Firefox has surpassed the 10 million download mark while gaining 5 percentage points in May to 7.4 percent in November, according to OneStat.com.
Congrats FireFox. -KF

I'm thinking about downloading it and fiddling around with it, see how it is. Its overall interface needs to be like Internet Explorer for me to use it.

Internet Explorer has a simple interface (probably because I've used it for so long), plus there is no tabs, I prefer individual windows.

If one tab causes Firefox to crash, you lose all of your work. That doesn't happen that often with IE, only windows that close are the children of the parent window (or essentially open in the same thread, say if you clicked a link that opens a new window - first window is the parent, second new one is the child)
