Windows installation Failure

My main PC has got to the point where it is just running like crap a lot of the time now so I have decided to format it (44 weeks isn't too bad for an XP install, heh). But I am running into a lot of problems.

First, I decided to reinstall XP, so I put the XP CD in, restart the machine, "Any key to boot from CD..." I hit a key and..... the screen goes black with the HD light stuck on.... riiiight. (CD is fine).

So, I think, lets try 2k. So I put the CD "Any key to boot from CD.." can't detect my drive... right..

So I put the oem.txt and relevant drivers on a floppy disk, it loads them and can see the drive, I format the Windows partition and.... it wants me to install a disk named "VIA RAID Combo Driver Diskette" in drive A:....

..... WHY?!

Installing XP or 2k really didn't used to be this difficult.

So basically, any idea why either A) XP install locks on a black screen or B) Why it wants this driver disk that doesn't exist?

I need to use this PC :(
