Paid tech made changes while I was in hospital.

Hey gang,
for those of you who know me ...hey all, and those of you that dont , I am wildthing423 or Marcus if you prefer. This is a complicated matter, and may cross boards. So, I will just say something as minimal as I can. I have been getting chemotherapy and to my demise and detriment I have had to leave this to my wife, who is computer illiterate, to take care of.
I have a dinosaur compared to all of you, but this is what I had before the problems...
Ga-6BXC motherboard w/ 440 chipset
633 mghz intel celeron processor
ATI 2d agp w/ 8 mb onboard
viewsonic 17 in monitor
standard win modem
WIN 98SE os
creative sound blaster live value
52x CDrom
40x-12-40x liteon cd-rw
win advanced keyboard
epson 777i printer
scanner/cant rember who's
brightnes/contrast went while in one of my hospital stays. wife took it to the people that built it. they changed the monitor and video card...why I dont know they wont speak to me about it. now there are a lot of problems. I will stop here so I do not bore all of you techinically proficient types and wait for some one to answer then I will post the rest of the BS... that is going on and that I cant remedy, especially from the hospital.
Blessings to all. Be well

Hope you are feeling better.
Right click "My Computer" > Click "Properties" > Click the "Device Manager" tab. Is there anything in there with a yellow exclamation point next to it? Or a red cross-out symbol?
I would have put all of that here but I read that you guys dont like really long messages. I appreciate the quick response.
they changed my monitor to a Daewoo 712d and my video to an ATI radeon 7000 w/32 mb ddr . there are know alienating message in device manager. It does lock up frequently. have to re-boot. all of my programs are opening off of the screen so that I am not able to access the buttons, etc. cant even min. the screen. I ahve run all kinds of tests and am getting strange readings that would lead me to believe that they changed the bios settings. I know they changed the fsb jumper settings because it is saying 66mghz instead of 100 fsb. the tech dept admits they changed the bios settings but did not print out either my old settings or their new ones. they will not honor the warranty and will know longer speak to me. I am just not feeling up to argueing. I have used everest, belarc , etc etc and there are many settings not showing up. for example l1-l2 cache and the like. I have to go now. this medicine is killing me.

I believe your processor should be at 66MHz FSB, so that is correct.
Might want to try loading the fail-safe defaults in the BIOS. Could you take a screen shot of your device manager and post it?
Trust me when I say this is definitely the right place to post. We take good care of our own here
Cyclonite,
Considering that I am getting hit with 25mg of pure morphine as needed, if I dont ramble on then it isnt working. But if I am I apologize. As far as the FSB goes , I had changed it before on purpose to see what type of overclocking could be done with this board. But, you are correct, 66MHz is correct. I posted this to show that they had changed it. many programs will not work any more even after re-installing them. I cant get a screen shot. I cant even copy the results from Belarc or everest to the clip board. As far as the Bios goes, the settings had been customized by a tech over the phone that deals strictly with intel based chip sets and gigabyte design. I no longer have this applied warranty... I am in need of advise as to set the default settings or the optimal settings in the bios. Also, I want to match the exact HD settings , sectors etc, insread of leaving it to auto in the cmos. Also I cant get anyof the windows to fit to the screen, even this one [ the board] is of the screen when it never had been before. I am not one to go running to someone to fix my little broken ass, but I am not of a completely clear mind and I really need all the help I can get . I alsonoticed that some of the motherboard drivers are not there , such as acpi, and agp to bridge host . somewhere I saw a download of a win.inf that would help recognize and install what was missing but I cant find it again. It was on one of the boards that I assist with spyware removal. Here , there, I dont know where. anyway, if anyone can assist me , It would be more then appreciated.
Take care.......

Links to drivers, BIOS updates, and drivers are on this page.
For the video, try right-clicking on a blank area of the desktop, then left-click on properties. This should bring up the display properties screen. Then click on the "Settings" tab at the top right.
Your Daewoo 712d is a 17" monitor which can handle anything up to a 1600X1200 resolution, though that would make everything kind of small. I'd try 1024X768 to start with. Set the color depth to "Highest (32-Bit)".
By clicking the "Advanced" button you can go to the section where you set your monitors refresh rate. Set it as high as you can without forcing the other settings to change to a lower value. 85 Hz or better is nice.
If your monitor is not properly identified, I have attached the .inf file for that series.
Once that is done, you will likely have to play with the controls on the monitor itself to get the screen size, centering, brightness, contrast, etc. right.
Feel better soon!
thanks
Marc
1) Wrong or mis-installed Video driver
2) Wrong monitor selected, or monitor misidentified
3) Monitor adjustment out of whack
4) Very low resolution and/or color depth setting
First off, since you mentioned that your MB has onboard video in addition to the Radeon 7000 installed by the paid "tech", make sure you've plugged your monitor into the new card and not the old onboard connection. Go into the BIOS and make sure the onboard video is disabled.
For problems #2, #3, and #4, the advice I gave you previously should take care of it. For #1, Go Here and download the latest drivers for your card. The middle one (with a date of 10/28/04) looks to be the one you're after.
I would approach the problem in this order:
1) Sort your BIOS stuff out, taking care to disable the onboard video. If you have questions, just ask.
2) Install the ATi video driver.
3) Install the monitor .inf file (just right-click on it, then left-click on "Install") then make sure the correct monitor is selected in Display Properties and follow the advice I gave previously to adjust the resolution, color depth, and refresh rate.
4) Use the adjustment buttons on the monitor to center the screen, resize everything to fit nicely, and set the brightness, contrast, etc. to your liking.
Prof,
I had done some of the things that you stated before wrote them and the rest after. Everything was too small for a partially blind person, and everything still opens off the viewing area. you know , toolbars and radio buttons are somewhere off the screen in alpha centauri. I know there is some way to fix this but I cant fiqure this out. :bawling:
I have search all over the net and cant find what I am looking for in any KB. I know its out there , I have seen this happen before. just not to me... Guys I am in a bad spot and really need your help. one of you hardware and software Gurus must know, I mean with all that info flying around in the overclockers forum, geez, the knowledge is there somewhere. Just not with me.
Prof , I hope one of you can help. I am writing you this from the hospital on a nurses laptop. I am not at home...again!!!!
thank you in advance
Marcus

It may be helpful to boot into safe mode and try to adjust the monitor.
Then you can play with video settings.
Hey, who do we have in the area? There must be one of us close enough to lend a hand.
I would start by using the zoom function until you can see everything, then use the size and center function to square everything up. You may need to play around with the geometry a little bit if the picture is not quite rectangular.
I had mentioned earlier that 1024X768 might be a good resolution for that 17" monitor. Since you mentioned having some vision troubles you might want to go with 800X600 instead.
Hang in there - we'll help you get it sorted out.
