Do you happen to know if the sound is integrated with the motherboard? If so, do you know the make and model of the motherboard? Did you install anything when you lost the sound? You could try system restore to a point when you had sound.

    thanks for the quick response.
the sound card is seperate from the motherboard.
had a load of problems reciently with the computer. over 500 parasites found.
ive had it all cleaned up and just put it all back, this time with fire walls, antivirus software ect. prior to wiping the system clean i lost the sound this was probably due to a parasite.
any way the sound card deffinetly says foxconn on it. any ideas?

The only links I could find for foxconn indicate that they make parts, like connectors. :)

Look around on the card and see if there is anything else written somewhere.

What does Device Manager show regarding your hardware? Are there any red X's or yellow exclamation points next to anything? What does it list under "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers"?

Did you re-check the card for any other hint as to manufacturer? If so, and you found nothing, copy ALL of the specs stamped on the largest chip on the card. If we know what chip it's using we can probably find a suitable driver.

If you have a scanner or digital camera send us a pic of both sides of the card. Might save one or two thousand words. :D

FoxConn also makes SOME custom ICs and OEM cards (including modem and audio cards and peripheral port cards, though they do not make very many cards any more for computers per se). Ever seen a Foxconn OEM'd motherboard??? There is a Foxconn mfring facility about 30 miles from me (they make mostly telecomm stuff there now, and do some warranty work). OFTEN, though, the OEM of the complete card supplies drivers it tunes, if it is a chip that says Foxconn. There is a Foxconn Electronics, and they also made computers and distributed them for special purposes.

Thanks very much for all your time given to my problem. My wife can now use the web cam to all her friends and family in Jerusalem. If I need any more help in the future I'll know where to come. :respect:

    Kind regards,
    Dave
