This just showed up in my systray uninvited. Anyone know anything about it? It's called Installshield. I definitely want to get rid of it, but of course it's nowhere to be found.

Yea usally it's the program to guide you through installing different programs from disk and other big downloaded material. Your best bet would to check if it is ad-ware, or if it comes with your system. If it poped up without you going onto the web, it most likely is a program you prevously have.

Someone might want to double check me on that.. I don't know a whole lot about instalashield...
( I also think installshield helps the unpagaging of programs)

It's not something I downloaded or was previously on my system. I build all my own stuff and I never asked for or installed it. It just appeared today. And of course, it's hiding. What makes them think I need their help to manage my software downloads and installs anyway.

I went to their website and fired off a nasty email demanding removal instructions and voicing my displeasure with their intrusion on my system in no uncertain terms.

I just can't understand the mentality of those who think they have the right to crap put others systems with their junk.

InstallSheild is not spyware. I believe it is used when you install certain PC games, Netscape browser, and RealPlayer, along with many other downloads. There is usually a file called isuninst.exe or isuninstall.exe that you can remove it with.

Well, I still don't like it. The whole concept of it seems utterly useless to me.

I'm still standing behind the nasty email I sent them as the program hides itself and can't be readily removed without research. To me that's sinister.

I'll look for those files. Thanks.

(I couldn't find those files using search, all the more reason for my hackles to be up)
