vx2 maybe? need help, log attached!

Ok guys. I've been working hard on a friends computer for about 2 days now. I have made a lot of head way but the pop-ups and problems persist so I'm turning to the experts. Sometimes I get some variety of load failure error on boot up and I frequently get blue screen crashes (especially when trying to run spybot and adaware). I still get occasional pop-ups and scrolling is very slow. Steps I have taken include CWShredder, HSRemove, SpyBot S&D, and ad-aware. I also followed the instructions for the HS remove I found here. I started out w/over 600 errors found in ad-aware and constant pop-ups and have now gotten down to about 6 errors in ad-aware and pop-ups only when browsing. The VX2 is the one that keeps showing up. Thanks in advance for even reading this. Also, these problems are on a Dell laptop so I'm not sure if the hardboot has really been a hardboot. Tips on this would be GREATLY appreciated. Here is the HJT log (not in safe mode, should I be?)

    Download LSPfix from here
On the opening screen, click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox. Check all instances of "calsp.dll and aklsp.dll" (and nothing else), and move them to the "Remove" pane. Then click Finish.

Go to c:\windows\system32 and delete those files manually.

    Download and run VX2Finder(.exe).
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/VX2Finder.exe

Open the program and click the 'Click to Find VX2.aBetterInternet' button. This will attempt to find all VX2 related files and registry keys and when present display them in its logfile. Tocreate a logfile, click the button named: 'Make Log'. This will open logfile using Notepadt. Please post (copy/paste) the results and post them in this topic

    Download these two tools:

    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/DllCompare.exe
    &
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.exe

killbox has been updated to ver 2.0.0.76 which will work in removing the VX2 files, so make sure you have this version.

Run Dllcompare, by clicking the "Run Locate.com" then click Compare button... when done post that log here..do not reboot because all the filenames will change otherwise.
Have killbox ready, you'll have a few files to delete in a certain way.

ok, followed instructions exactly however I was unable to manually delete aklsp.dll and calsp.dll, it said something about write protection or that they were in use.

This may take a little bit to do, so keep track and dont miss any files.

Open Killbox, click the option Replace on Reboot & click the box Use Dummy

You'll see the path to the filename appear in the bottom box.

copy & paste 1 at a time starting.

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\alctres.dll

    into the top box

Click the red X, Say yes to the message box that comes up, then say No to the next box asking you to reboot.

This is important, coz if you reboot before you are finished entering all the files, you will have to start over again and the file names will have changed.

Do the same for this entire list

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\alctres.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ckmaddin.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\d40m0e~1.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\e002la~1.dll

    This one too;

Those three files that are left are more like HSA files than VX2. Also, the new VX2 infection all date December. We will try to get rid of them anyway :).

Open Killbox, click the option Replace on Reboot & click the box Use Dummy

You'll see the path to the filename appear in the bottom box.

copy & paste 1 at a time starting.

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\efbkm.dll

    into the top box

Click the red X, Say yes to the message box that comes up, then say No to the next box asking you to reboot.

    Do the same for the following;

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\klypy.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\vslrk.dll

Use Vx2Finder tool, click the "User Agent$" button, and the "Restore Policy" button and reboot again.

Open the registry editor and go to The key is:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify and export that key to your desktop. Call it notify.reg
Right click on it and then edit. Copy and paste the results here.

    Post another VX2 log please.

dll compare came back clean. SpyBot found only DSO and adaware found tracking cookies and another program, which I had it remove, and I know I'm retarded but the name escapes me :( but I think it was related to the autosearch IP's in the hjt log. The only problem I notice is that the computer still scrolls very slowly, its kind of one frame at a time rather than a nice smooth scrolling. Thanks a ton for all your help!

    Open regedit and navigate to this key;
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
    Find the sub key Applets.
Right click on that sub key and delete it.

Guard.tmp, may still exist as it is created on Shutdown, but is unprotected at this point.
Open Killbox again, paste the path to guard.tmp into the first box.
    ie:

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\guard.tmp

Click on the "X" button and delete the file.

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

Are you having any problems with your recycle bin? This infection sometimes affects it.

Reboot and post another hijackthis log please.

There is a fix now for the DSO exploit in Spybot. Check one of the threads at the top of this forum.

On reboot I got a blue screen that said a lot of stuff, the gist of which I took to be IPVNMon.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. It booted up fine the second time. Recycle bin definately seems to be jacked. It shows the icon like there are things in it but when I open it it lists no files. Then when I click empty it asks if I want to delete the 26 items and then apparently does nothing. Also, norton seems to be messed up. I can't seem to enable auto-protect and email scanning, but maybe these problems are unrelated. The slow scrolling persists as well, but that could be something else also I suppose. I'm going to make sure the computer is patched up with windows. I have also since downloaded firefox so my friend doesn't have to use IE and maybe not have these problems again. Here is the log, I can't stress how greatful I am for all the help.

I noticed 2 crazywinnings entries still there so I updated spybot and fixed the problems which included the DSO problems as well as something it called DoubleClick and ValueClick and some MRU lists. Then I ran adaware and it found nothing. I fixed the crazywinnings entires in hjt and rebooted; spybot and adaware find nothing; however, the crazywinnings are still showing up in the HJT log. Posting a new hjt log.

go here http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/ and download, unzip and run the Registry Search Tool. Type crazywinnings in the dialog box. Let it run and after a few minutes, a prompt will appear. Click OK to write the results to Notepad. Open notepad and navigate to the key\s shown and delete them. You should backup the reigistry first, or make a restore point.

Open Killbox and Copy & Paste the path to the Desktop.ini for recycle bin.

    C:\RECYCLER\Desktop.ini

Click Red X to delete it.

I am not certain of the reason why the other stuff is happening (Norton etc).

Here is where I found the entries in case this could be helpful to you in the future.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\frame.crazywinnings.com]

    [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-776561741-1580436667-854245398-1004\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\frame.crazywinnings.com]

I noticed a ton of other porn, casino, search and coolwebsearch related things in the second area. I'm gonna run reg cleaner or something like that and see if that doesn't take care of them. Otherwise you think I should delete those manually?

I decided since norton was acting messed up to run trendmicro housecall. It found 8 trojans which I had it take care of. So maybe that was part of the problem.

I really appreciate all the help over the last couple days.

The regkeys may be part of some spyware blocks. Spyware Shooter and Spybot use those keys to block malicious porn and other spyware sites. Check the DWORD value, and if it ends in a 4, then those entries are to protect you.

I agree with SpywareShooter. They may have been added by spywareblaster or some other program.
How is your recycle bin now?

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.
