waiting on purchasing new equipment?
So here is the situation. I'm getting a new graphics card (geforce 6800 w00ts) for christmas, and I just got a new flat panel monitor, so I got to thinking...it would be nice if I could upgrade from my dell (shut up, it was free). So, either over the winter break (next month or so) or over the summer I would like to buy a new processor, motherboard, RAM (those are the key things...I'd need a case and power supply but other than that, graphics, sound, optical drives are all already taken care of).
So my question is do you guys think I would gain anything by waiting till the summer? Would there be any major price drops on anything? I'd dearly like to purchase an AMD 64-bit system, but I keep getting faced with the problem of all techies: when they drop the prices, something better is now available at the price I would have paid before...so I wait for the price drop and then something better is available....and etc. Advice?

We won't see new CPU's (dualcore being my definition of "new") until later next year IF at all next year and when they come out I'm afraid they're going to be pretty pricey, beyond what all but the lucky few with loose pockets can afford.
Im monsterously tempted by a dual opteron setup BUT want to wait until nForce4 is here with SLI & SATA II (native command queuing!!).
The best way to decide is think about what you need and can your PC do that at the moment to a reasonable level of performance. If it can, wait. If it can't.. drop ya coin on what you can afford
