Wireless always disconnecting

Now I'm confused. I've played with channels and such, but it doesn't make a difference. It seems that anytime I let the computer alone, the wireless drops. Every night I wake up and it's disconnected. Windows, even though it's set to auto connect when the network is in range, and to auto repair, doesn't. Ever. Isn't it supposed to KEEP trying? But everytime I hit the repair button, it works .

Also, there's something else. It occasionally disconnects when I'm gone at school, but not quite so often. EVERY night without fail it does. My brother, who has the router in his room and is wired, never gets disconnected. Also, just now, I fell asleep petting the dog (lol, not necessary information, but I'm still in that dream-like state ;D) for about half an hour. It was fine, BitTorrent running at 160ish kB/sec all day, never getting disconnected. I used it when I got home for half an hour or so. Then *poof* it's gone. I got up, Windows told me it couldn't repair the connection. I hit the button and it works . I'm beginning to suspect the screensaver (it's just 'Blank' but still). Maybe outdated drivers? The firmware on the router hasn't been flashed with the latest, though we just bought it the other week, so it should be relatively new. Whether or not BitTorrent is running, this happens in this peculiar way. Our router (WRT54-G, I think?) doesn't seem to have a problem with lots of traffic, like our previous one.

I'm stumped. Any suggestions? Maybe it has something to do with my brainwaves when I'm asleep? ;D Who knows - maybe I'm browsing the Internet while I'm dreaming. How kickass would that be?! :D:p

I would update the firmware for sure. I have never had this problem, so I'm not positive it will work. Have you tried to change the screen saver? I doubt that will make it disconnect, but worth a shot.

are you letting windows handle the connection with its built in wireless software or using the actual software that came with the wireless network card?

Windows wireless connection software suxors and will drop the connection frequently.

I'm letting Windows deal with it. AFAIK, the Linksys didn't have any "software" that handled the connection. It was only a guide on how to set things up, which I only glanced at. Unless there's something I missed?

    your kinda SOL.

Windows wireless zero configuration has know issues with dropping connections. I recommend to people that they use a card that comes with its own software packages. Ive used both on my laptop which has a build in broadcom g, windows dropped connection like every 12 min. The HP/Broadcom software for my laptop always works flawlessly.
