Power supply

edited December 2004 in Hardware
Decided to upgrade my 250Watt for a Levicom 350Watt and now feel I have done something without enquiring 1st.
What damage can I do using the system I upgraded to as it is 100Watt more power?
It claims to be thermal controlled.....How do I know if it adjusts itself to speed up the 2 fans if it gets hotter as in the booklet it has a 3pin connector with 2 wires that i HAVE NOT CONNECTED TO ANYTHING.

Help... I am a newbie to all this cpu stuff.
Reason I am enquiring is that my device manager showes that my 3000+ is now a 2200+ and thought it might have something to do with the upgrade

    1) you probably can't do any damage, although looking at your setup that PSU is still not going to be enough. No-name PSUs tend to have a much lower output than their rated potential, or in otherwords a 400w no-name is probably about the same as a 250w antec, enermax,pc power and cooling, etc.

    2) the wire you didn't connect should only be for monitoring fan speed from within an OS

    3) the reason it says 2200+ is because you probably have it set to a 133fsb instead of a 166fsb, which you will have to change in your bios
